UST Project

On June 19th, the final event of the Erasmus+ project UST – Upskilling Municipal Staff Competences on Planning and Managing Sustainable Tourism took place in Comune di Scandiano organised by the Italian partners Comune di Scandiano and SERN.
Attended by more than 50 participants, the event was an important occasion to:
✅ Showcase the project results and the tools developed, now available for use by other municipalities
✅ Share and reflect on Scandiano’s journey from the beginning to the end of the project
✅ Take part in a sustainable tourism workshop, where participants worked in groups to explore how each of us can contribute to greater sustainability, starting with small, everyday actions.

On February 25-26, 2025, partners from Sweden, Spain, Italy, and Cyprus met in Falköping, for a key Transnational Project Meeting of the UST Project.
The discussions focused on the testing phase results of the e-learning platform, followed by workshops on stakeholder engagement and planning for the project handbook.
💡Beyond the working sessions, the group had the opportunity to visit Lake Hornborga, Sweden’s most renowned bird lake, and the Naturum Hornborgasjön visitor centre. Every spring, thousands of cranes gather here, offering a breathtaking natural spectacle. The visit provided deep insights into sustainable lake tourism and the community’s efforts to balance environmental protection with tourism development.
With the project ending on August 31, 2025, the coming months will be crucial to finalising the project outputs and preparing four key dissemination events across Italy, Sweden, Spain, and Cyprus.
Stay tuned for more updates! 🚀🔎

Seminar
The UST Project seminar, taking place in Gothenburg from April 9 to 11, 2024, convenes stakeholders and experts under the theme “Sustainable Tourism Perspectives from Europe.” The three-day event offers a comprehensive exploration of sustainable tourism practices.
Day 1
Day 1 of the seminar is dedicated to engaging stakeholders from the countries of the project partner organisations. Through a series of interactive discussions, workshops, and presentations, participants will explore the fundamental principles of sustainability within the tourism sector. Central to this exploration will be an in-depth examination of the UN SDGs and their significance in guiding sustainable tourism practices.
Day 2
Moving into Day 2, the seminar shifts its focus towards guest speakers and their contributions to the sustainable tourism landscape. Experts from Sweden, like Kristina Lindström and Joakim Forsemalm, will share their insights and experiences. Through case studies and inspirational lectures, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how sustainable tourism initiatives have been successfully implemented.
Day 3
As the seminar progresses into its final day, Day 3 will be dedicated to reflection and action planning. Building upon the knowledge and inspiration garnered from the preceding days, participants will engage in facilitated discussions and group activities aimed at distilling key insights and identifying actionable steps forward.
Exploring Sustainable Tourism Perspectives from Europe took center stage from April 9-11, 2024, in Gothenburg! Hosted by Svedest, this seminar brought together a vibrant mix of experts and stakeholders from all over Europe to dive into the future of sustainable tourism.
We had rich discussions on integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into tourism planning. It was fascinating to see how each partner city has been making strides with their assigned SDGs:
Xixona with SDG 1 (No Poverty)
Falköping with SDGs 14-15 (Life Below Water and Life on Land)
Scandiano with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)
The event was also packed with inspiring talks, shedding light on crucial concepts that will feature in our upcoming final handbook.
